Being a resort, there are many components to daily life on the Ranch and no two days are identical. Our ideal candidate for any position is one that has the motivation and flexibility to help in various areas as needed or requested.
All applicants must have great people skills and be a minimum of 18 years old. Anyone applying for a position within the barn and with the horses must also have riding skills and a thorough understanding of horses and what’s involved in their care.
Positions Available:
We will begin accepting applications around early May for all Summer positions. Applications must be received by May 12th for consideration. They should be mailed to 6841 Brown Bridge Rd Traverse City, MI 49696 or if you'd like to bring it out please call ahead of time as this time of year we are frequently outside getting things ready for the season and not always in the office.
Guest Services/Office Assistant-
Must be a friendly face as you are often the first point of contact for new guests and will set the tone for the rest of their experience or stay. Assisting customers, answering phones, filing, taking reservations, check-ins and check-outs, general office and computer work.
Cook and Kitchen Staff-
Experience preferred. Must be able to work well independently and in a team setting, be able to cook off menu and in a banquet setting, help with menu planning for our meal package guests, and help with the front of the house responsibilities as well-at times even taking orders and then cooking them. Must be flexible and motivated and open to closing and/or opening responsibilities.
Wait Staff-
Must be friendly and energetic and able to both take orders off menu and work in a banquet setting for our weddings and other groups. Must be at least 18 years old to handle alcohol and willing to help in other areas as well. Must be open to learning new things such as some light bartending to be able to assist in more than 1 area.
Drivers/Maintenance Crew-
Help with transportation to our guests traveling up stream for river trips (canoers, kayakers, and tubers). Must be able to lift and load canoes and drive and back-up a van with trailer. Also responsible for transportation of bringing off site guests to and from the Ranch for our activities. Between canoe runs, this position also helps with areas such as pool and pool deck cleaning and maintenance, staining, fencing, cutting hauling and stacking wood, mowing, weedwacking, cleaning out firepits, and light general maintenance.
Housekeeping/Cleaning Crew-
Cleaning motel rooms, lodging facilities, lobby, and bathrooms. This position also helps maintain cleanliness and appearance of our guest and common areas both inside and outside and will include sweeping, straightening, picking up, and some raking, watering flowers and weeding flower beds.
Wranglers-
Lead guests on trail rides, help in the daily care of 40+ horses including feeding, grooming, tacking, mucking and anything else that need be done to ensure the integrity of the horses and barns. Must be comfortable in the saddle riding a variety of horses and also able to ride up to 5+hours a day. Must be able to work well independently as well as in a team setting and follow direction. This position can be very fast paced and sometimes 10 or more hours a day. Must be very responsible with excellent communication and have a true passion for horses. May help in other areas (such as horse camps) as needed.
Camp and Lesson Staff (Horses/Instructional)-
Works closely with Wranglers and other barn staff in terms of the daily responsibilities of both horses and facilities. This position will also help with children's horse camps and on occassion with private riding lessons for children or adults. Must also be willing to help with trail rides as the Wranglers do. Excellent communication and a true passion for horses are a must.
Stable Hand (Horse)-
This role helps with all aspects of farm animal (including goats and mini donkeys) and horse care including grooming, feeding, tacking, tending to injuries, clipping, detailed grooming, and bathing. It is also responsible for barn facility, and grounds care including areas such as mucking, raking, bedding, de-cobwebbing, watering flowers, cleaning tack, sweeping, cleaning tack and feed rooms, cleaning grooming tools, cleaning water tanks and feed buckets. Must have a strong work ethic and incredible attention to detail. Must also be able to lift and carry hay bales and feed bags. At times this person may assist Wranglers with loading and un-loading riders, children's rides, or even tag along on a large ride. However, the primary focus of this role contains little, if any, riding. This is the only position for which we will consider mature and responsible 16 or 17 year olds.
Stable Hand (Ranch)-
This person helps with the maintenance end of things including fencing, staining, general repairs needed around the barn, dragging pastures, mowing, weedwacking, etc. Some of these areas may crossover to the Ranch side as well. Tractor experience perferred.
